Chapter 1: No One Is Truly Lucky

Melinda Craig entered the world on December 21, 1982, exactly 20 years before the apocalypse was rumored to happen.  Although she was born on an extremely unlucky date, her natural traits said otherwise; she was not only very lucky, she also was naturally athletic and her kissing skills were quite high considering she was a great kisser. With these traits she believed that it would be easy for her to start her legacy, in which she would raise 5 or more children, and one would be the heir.  However life is full of unexpected events that really have no reason for occuring and whatnot.  Anyway, here is

Melinda.

She was led into Sunset Valley by a friend she knew that lived in
Twinbrook.  She had said that it was a great place to raise big families and such, so she decided to take advantage of the large plot of land her grandmother left for her, as well as the $1,800 she had in her pockets.  With this money she did not have enough money to build a house just yet, so she bought the essentials; a refrigerator, a counter, toilet, mirror, bed, bookshelf, couch and clothesline.  Melinda understood she did not have much privacy but everyone must start somewhere, right?

While settling into her house, she began to feel depressed on how bad her living conditions were, and wished she had more money. She was frugal so it worried her how she was going to raise children when she did not want to spend any money for them in the first place!

Just then she realized, what the heck am I here for? To have children, right?  So she headed to Central Park, knowing that it was a popular hang out spot for the citizens of Sunset Valley.  Because she did not have a car she had to call the taxi and spend her remaining cash.  This worried her as she had no more money for meals.

When she arrived to Central Park she immediately noticed a man nicely dressed in a mailman outfit.  Well, might as well try, she thought, walking up to him.

“Hello, I’m Melinda Craig,” she said. “I’m new to Sunset Valley and…”

“Say no more.  I’ve heard of you.”

“You have? Well, how?”

“You’re Valerie Craig’s daughter, correct,”

“Yes. ”

“And she was a world famous scientist, am I right?”

“Well, yeah, but i mean, who really cares about science.  It really sucks.” This was the athletic part of her speaking, since she believed that only hard work and discipline could succeed in weight loss, and not chemically-loaded diet pills.  “Anyway, I was going to ask, what would your career happen to be, just curious.” This was a stupid question as he was dressed as a mailman.

“I am single, yes,” he responded with ease.  Oh, so now you’re excited, she thought angrily. Second action; asking him his sign.

He turned out to Taurus. Not compatible with her, but what did it really matter anyway.  The final step was what mattered the most anyway. She began to flirt with him, seeing if he liked it.

“No, no, don’t do that.  I’m not exactly the straightest man in the world, if you know what I mean.”  He walked away awkwardly.

“Okay, maybe i’ll call you?” Melinda yelled to him, but she knew he was gay and there was no point in worrying about it.  However she couldn’t believe she found him attractive.  Does that mean there’s something wrong with me? She thought. She shrugged off that feeling and began to look around for someone else. She found another attractive man speaking to an elder.

“Hello, I am Melinda Craig.”

“Ah, is your mom Valerie Craig?”

“Yes, but I’ve got something more important to ask you.  Are you… single?” She decided she would just cut to the chase to reduce the awkwardness.

“Oh, yes! Extremely! Why, would you like to go out with me?” Melinda couldn’t believe her luck, now she had a man who really wanted her.

“Yes, yes, oh yes!” And with that Melinda began to flirt like the natural girl she was.

“What?” Melinda said as he pulled away.

“You really think anyone here wants to go out with you? Central Park is where all of us hang out.  Get lost, hideous.”  Melinda walked away angry and sad.  No wonder he was flirting with that elderly man.  What a loser, she thought as she walked away.

So in this chapter we see Melinda get rejected by both  men she meets at Central Park, before realizing it was a gay community! Will Melinda ever find the man of her dreams?  Will she ever have children and start her legacy? Read the next chapter to find out!
